June 13, 2010 -2010 Bistro Extraordinaire

Our gracious hostess, Val Davisson, provided her lovely home overlooking Lake Tahoe for a party to welcome summer to the Lake.  David Davenport, proprietor and negociant of the North Berkeley Wine Company provided a selection of fine French wines from small chateaux, and Chef Carl Simoneau of Twin Peaks catering offered a sumptuous array of hors d'oeuvres to enjoy while sipping champagne on the patio, followed by a superb five course dinner designed to complement the wines.  After a lingering winter, members agreed there could not have been a finer way to welcome summer than at our French Bistro Dinner.

Our club cellar master, John Allen, has been focusing many of his recent purchases on some countries that have more recently come to the attention of oenophiles. As a result, he came up with the brilliant idea of pairing similar wines from the Old World and the New. Working with Jeremy Wilken, the food and beverage manager of the Biltmore, the two came up with a menu that complemented the wines that John selected. The wines, and the exquisite menu, sparked conversation, contention, and a lot of fun.

BITE, March 2008

On March 24, 2008, 33 members of the Incline IWFS shared in an outstanding introduction to the new BITE restaurant located in their community, sponsored by Janet Pahl and Warren Kocmond.
The owners of the “short order, fine dining” bistro are Thomas and Brooke Duncan.
The chef, Bryn Herrlein, treated the attendees to a delicious meal, including Beef Wellington and crab cake appetizers with Champagne, followed by six courses of “tapas, family style” using family recipes.
These courses included Petrale sole, Cajun prawns, lamb chop bites, and the melt-in -your-mouth All-American Sliders (mini burgers, French style). This fine food was accompanied by the Chilean Marques de Concha ’05 and the Spanish Boaegas Castano Solanera ’01 and Clos Manvetes Priorat ’99. To top off the evening, dessert was a marvelous combination of Devils chocolate cake and ice cream sandwich bites, along with a Smith Woodhouse ’95 Port.
